In Arkansas two TunnelTech 503’s will be used to measure Carbon Monoxide (CO) levels in a highway tunnel.  Carbon Monoxide (CO) is dangerous to humans in high quantities and can build up if cars and trucks stand still too long in a tunnel.  The Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitors will signal tunnel operators to ensure the exhaust fans are on and keeping fresh air moving through the tunnel.

In Pennsylvania TunnelTech 601 series Luminance Monitors will be used to insure motorists going in and out of a tunnel are not blinded by the lights inside the tunnel or have to adjust suddenly to darkness when entering the tunnel.  The 601’s measure light directly outside the tunnel and signal the tunnel lighting system to balance itself so motorists don’t encounter a large difference in light intensity as they enter and exit the tunnel.  This helps to avoid accidents by making sure your eyes don’t have to adjust to quick light changes as you go through the tunnel.
